A recent visit to the floating village of Kampong Phluk blew my mind! Located on the Tonle Sap lake, the houses are built on high stilts about 9meters from the ground to protect from the rising water levels from the lake during the wet season, around September to March. We are now in January and the water levels are dropping, exposing the impressive stilts all these houses are resting on. A boat ride through the village gives you a glimpse into the life of a floating village, fishermen are sorting through their catch, children are rowing to school, people are tending to their floating vegetable garden.
We also enjoyed a a boat ride on a smaller boat through the mangroves. It was calm and peaceful, and the light shining through in places created a magical atmosphere.
